The little 80 meter qrp transmitter using the 12K5 has taken a couple unexpected (but predictable) turns. The circuit loaded up beautifully and we measured 30 to 40 mW into a flat 50 ohm dummy load. Good tuning, and easy to oscillate. Turned out though, that the output wanted to double to 40 meters.  When you try to get an oscillator circuit to operate on its fundamental frequency,  some circuits will drop out of oscillation at the resonant frequency.  If  you detune for good oscillation, you lose output power. This leads us in two directions. We can improve the 40 meter design by using 80 meter crystals... We may have to redesign the type of oscillator we use on 80 meters, or go to a second tube to get stability and power gain.

Time involved in this work will have to wait; the final touches on the regenerative receiver are job number 1.  Stay tuned and stay warm!  73 es BCNU!  Glenn NN8G
